The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The games may be over, but the battle has just begun for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)...In The Hunger Games-Catching Fire we ctach up back with Katniss Everdeen, as she tries to settle into her new role as a victor of the 74th Annual Hunger Games - reluctantly participating in a 'Victory Tour' with fellow Victor, (and apparent boyfriend) Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), where they are forced to visit the 11 defeated Districts of Panem and the Capitol. But not before long, Katniss realises that she has emerged as a symbol of rebellion; a flame that was sparked by her final actions in the Hunger Games’ arena.

With a shocking twist at the Quarter-Quell (75th annual) Hunger Games, Katniss’ focus is taken away from the unrest in the Districts, and consumes her with a growing intensity to survive, at least long enough to protect Peeta, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and her family from the dictatorship that threatens all of their lives.

New director Francis Lawrence has crafted a fast-paced sequel - a suspenseful, thrill ride from start to finish. HG fans’ will not be disappointed, glued to the edge of their seats as they navigate the twists and turns in Katniss’ world. If the first film adaptation was well done, the second instalment is genius. Francis Lawrence expands on the world in a way that doesn't disregard Ross's original Hunger Games film, but somehow manages to improves upon it. The political and cultural themes have progressed and the action sequences are more fully realised.

Our 'Girl On Fire' has developed beautifully - played out masterfully by now Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, who is feisty but also very funny as Katniss. In fact, all of the returning cast have delved deeper into their characters, reaching new depths in their performances.

Whether you are a fan of the books or not, Catching Fire is epic, and certainly an accomplished film in it's own right. Well, the benchmark has been set very high for the final two movies. Is it too soon to say that I am already looking forward to the next one....!
